Baby beanie and booties

by tolmema on August 17, 2012

One of my cousins commissioned me to make some baby items for a friend of hers who is due soon. She wanted me to use baby blue, brown, and lime green. Here’s the bootie and beanie set. There’s no green in the hat or booties, but the other things I’m making for her will compensate for that.

I made the beanie a little larger than newborn size, so that it would fit for longer ┬áthan just a couple of weeks. This hat should fit up to six months and keep baby’s noggin warm until spring.

I did the same with the booties and made them a size 2 (roughly), which should last until around 6-9 months, depending on how big baby is. I tied them together with a little bow, and I think it makes them look twice as cute!

This beanie/bootie set will keep baby warm all the way through winter. I am really growing fond of wool and its versatility. There’s so many types and kinds of wool, and it has a lot of great benefits, such as regulating body temperature, is resistant to bacteria, and is biodegradable. Also, there’s the fact that it’s a natural fibre.

I still have a few things left to make for my cousin (a quilt and maybe another hat/bootie set?), but they are bigger projects that will take a good chunk of my weekend to finish up.

Happy Friday!
