January 2014 Update

by tolmema on January 29, 2014

January was such a busy month for me. I transitioned from part-time work to salary, effectively doubling my hours (and reducing my quality Merlin time). It’s taken awhile to get into a routine…up at 7, coffee and breakfast, then phone calls until about 3pm…take a break, come back after the girls are in bed to work some more. Rinse, repeat; it’s a nice routine. I’m lucky that I have a job that I love and that I get to work from home!

Since 100% of my job is staring at a computer screen in some form or another, I’ve been pretty anti-computer in my downtime. Instead I’ve been knitting a lot (tons of WIPs, no finished anythings), and trying to get out of the house more.

I’ve also noticed a big improvement in my actual productivity during the day. Since I am working so much, I don’t have nearly as much time for other stuff, which means I get a lot more done in a smaller timeframe. It’s not even the fact that I’m rushing to finish things – I simply do not have the time to dick around and spend all day doing laundry at my own leisurely pace, so I’m constantly moving. As a result, the whole household is a bit tidier and I haven’t had to scrounge up clean socks (bonus!).

So as a whole, even though I’m much more busy than I was a month ago, I’ve fallen into a comfortable routine that works for the family, and my productivity has increased immensely! 2014 is shaping up to be a busy, productive year.

How has your year fared so far?
